On Friday Jason and I went to Abingdon, VA (about 5 hours from Nashville) to stay at the Rivergarden Bed and Breakfast. I found out about Abingdon from an article in the travel section of The Tennessean about a month ago. It sounded like such a cute town and not too far. Neither of us had ever stayed at a B&B so this was a fun first for us. Let me first start with a funny story about our rental car. I get in and turn on the radio. There was a little sheet of paper sticking out of the CD player (at the time I didnt realize it was the CD player). Turns out it was a check sheet the car cleaner initials once they clean the car. Well, I put it back in the slot and it sucks it in like a CD! I freaked. So needless to say we didnt listen to any CD's the entire trip! Of course, Jason made fun of me and I told Budget rent a car the CD player didnt work and I didnt know why!!
This is the view from our room. I know it would be even prettier in the summer. I forgot to take a pic of our room but it was really cute. Its called the Barter Room after the Barter Theatre in downtown Abingdon. This theatre is really old and they were showing Peter Pan this weekend but neither of us cared to see it. Anyway, our room had a row of three theatre chairs to go with the theme. Really cute!!
We had our Valentine's dinner at Withers Hardware restaurant. The building it's in use to be a hardware store in the late 1800s and the current owners bought it in 1983 and turned it into a restaurant. It was a pretty classy place. We arent use to eating somewhere that has a 3-piece band and a dance floor! Jason wouldnt dance even though we took dancing lessons!! Anyway, the food was great and inexpensive.
So, on our way back today we stopped at UT Knoxville, Jason's alma mater. This is the sign for his job when he was in college. It was cool to see where he worked but then he wanted to show me where he and his girlfriend use to make out! Do I want to see that? NO! He looks so serious here. I think he was just cold!
Ok, everyone should know by now I HATE the UT Vols. So I had to give Neyland Stadium the thumbs down! ROLL TIDE!!
We tried to do some hiking on the VA Creeper Trail but it kind of sucked. The only place you could park to start hiking was in a neighborhood. I felt like we were walking through people's back yards!! We had a great time though and I would def. recommend this place to anyone.
